Introduction.
A. We need to know our history. And there is no other greater history we need than the bible.
B. Too often we observe the Bible as a series of unrelated stories.
C. There is a clear theme.
i. During this series of lessons my goal is:
1. See how the Bible is a cohesive story.
2. See the Bible as one continual story.
3. See God’s plan of redemption.
D. Tonight we will look at an overview of the Bible story.

II. Overview of the Bible story.
A. Creation.
i. World and man.
ii. First sin.
iii. First promise of a savior.
B. Flood.
i. Man continually grows more and more evil.
ii. God becomes sorry he created him
iii. Destroys all mankind. Except Noah’s family.
iv. New Covenant established between God and man.
C. The Scattering.
i. One family.
ii. One language
iii. Man once again sins. Starts building the Tower of Babel.
iv. God creates different languages and the people cannot speak to each other.
v. People scatter. The land divided.
D. Patriarchs
i. Promises to Abraham.
1. Nation.

3. Messiah.
ii. Jacob’s twelve sons.
iii. Jacob moves family to Egypt.
E. Exodus from Egypt.
i. Moses was given task to lead them out.

i. Forces to wander for forty years.

i. Joshua leads the invasion.
ii. They still fail to capture all the land.

ii. They would have about 40 years of peace then back to sin and unrest.
iii. Samuel last Judge.
iv. People call for a king.
v. God gives them a king.
vi. Saul anointed King, but becomes unfaithful to God.
vii. God anoints David.
I. United Kingdom.
i. David is a man after God’s own heart.
ii. Units the Kingdom, defeats all of Israel’s enemies.
iii. Want to build a permanent Temple for God.
iv. God refuses to let David build it, but promises that Solomon will.
v. Solomon rules after David.
J. Divided Kingdom.
i. Divides between 10 northern tribes and Judah &Benjamin.
1. North is known as Israel.
2. Southern tribes as Judah.
ii. Israel never is faithful and is taken away by Assyria.
1. Judah left alone.
2. Israel never returns.
iii. Judah falls to Babylon.
K. Captivity.
i. Period of Daniel

iii. Soon people start to become unfaithful to God again.
